Teacher Training Program

Jesskya Pairman Completes Teacher Training Program

The first interaction we had with Jessyka was over the phone after receiving her resume for our open teaching position back in January of 2017, and it went something like this:

Me: Hello, Jessyka?

Jesskya: Yes, this is she.

Me: Awesome! This is Beau Monde Academy and we just wanted to let you know we are interested in setting up a time to meet and interview you for the teaching position. Are you still interested?

Jessyka: Wait… Who is this?……. Did I apply there?

Despite the hilariously awkward initial phone call, Jessyka shined during her interview process; even if she did express her disdain for her at the time job (of three days); maybe a little unsettling from an employer’s perspective but her personality, sense of humor and confidence captivated us. Shortly after her interview Jessyka started our Teacher Training Program. Jessyka was new to Portland due to relocating with her family from Southern California leaving her friends and beloved California life and beach behind.  Jessyka successfully completed our Teacher Training Program and quickly became a  favorite amongst staff, students and clients.

How long have you been in the beauty industry? What Beauty School did you attend?

Jessyka: I have been around the beauty industry all my life. I have officially been licensed for going on 4 years now. I attended Citrus College in Glendora, California.

You completed our Teacher Training Program here at Beau Monde Academy (Quite the accomplishment for someone so young!) What was your biggest take away from the experience?

Jessyka: The biggest experience I took away from the training program was how to talk to people when they are so scared about something. Instead of forcing them into a situation they didn’t feel comfortable with, I worked with them, showed them, and made them feel confident enough so they could do it on their own without my assistance.

What inspired you to pursue a career in the beauty industry?

Jessyka:  I wanted to pursue this industry because I loved how there are so many different career paths you can take with Cosmetology. It’s not always just behind the chair!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received? What advice would you give to new stylists/students?

The best advice I have ever gotten was to never give up. It’s hard starting out and seeing all these amazing hairdressers and wanting to be as great as them. You will be, one day. Just have to start from the bottom and work your way up. Some people say it’s easy doing hair, it’s not. It’s a lot of time, effort, and hard work!

What was one of your biggest career challenges and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge was becoming a stylist on my own. I was assisting a 35+ year stylist and I got so comfortable there I was so nervous to go on my own with my own clients. As soon as I did it, it was the best decision I could of made for my self and for my business.

What keeps you motivated?

What keeps me motivated is the people I get to work with and the clients I get to meet. The best feeling in the world is when someone starts to cry because they love their hair that much. It’s an overwhelming feeling!

Do you have a signature look or style that you are known for?

I would say my shortcuts, I love the detail I put into them and how I put my own personal touches on them.

What is next on your career path?

I would say get back to behind the chair. I loved it when I first started so I want to get back there. I also want to keep teaching. It brought me so much happiness at a hard time in my life so I will always be grateful for that.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself just being happy and healthy. Of course, I want be rich, but if I’m healthy, happy and with a great life partner. Life is good!

Do you have any icons in the industry? If so, who?

I don’t have anyone I really look up to because I see everyone’s personal techniques and admire them for it. I am always watching videos and stuff to learn more from other people. I incorporate their techniques into my work and make it my own.
